Depending on when you read this magazine during the month, you might still be able to vote for the 2019 HAR Board of Directors. The election will conclude on Monday, August 6 at 5 p.m. You should have received an email ballot that was particular to you, so make sure you check your spam filter if you haven’t received an email. You may read here to see a complete list of the candidates running in each of the positions. You may also visit www.har.com/election to see profile and videos from each of them. If you are reading this after the election has been completed, I have no doubt that an excellent crop of new directors will serve each of us well as they lead the best REALTOR® association in the country.

Every month when I receive the MLS statistics, I open the email with great anticipation. We’ve seen some balancing of the market, as the months inventory figure has slowly risen. Even so, we are still in what is considered to be a seller’s market. Prices continue to inch upward as well with both the median and average sales prices hitting record highs in June. Another milestone we saw in June was the sale of more than 10,000 properties in a single month. That had never happened in our market before. You may read all about the market statistics here. We are fortunate to live in a place with strong, steady growth. Let’s keep it up!

I also want to encourage each of you to “like us” on Facebook. You may find us under HAR.com in the Facebook search bar. The HAR staff posts great information about the industry, Houston and the association. In particular, the #MemberFocusMonday live videos broadcast every Monday morning at 9 a.m. have become Must See (HAR) TV. You may hear a legal update about the latest TREC advertising rules or about how to promote you and your business on social media. Make sure to tune in every Monday morning. You may read more about these live videos here. If you have a question during the session, just type it in the comments, and they will make sure to answer it during the broadcast.

For those of you in Harris County, there is a very important election coming up in August. The Harris County Flood Control District bond election will be held on August 25, with early voting from August 8 through August 21. This bond initiative, which the HAR Board of Directors has voted to support, would fund various flooding and drainage improvement projects in the county during the next 10-15 years. If there’s an issue that is important to all of us after the Memorial Day flood, Tax Day flood, July 4th flooding and, of course, Hurricane Harvey, it should be doing everything we can to mitigate any future flooding from damaging or destroying homes and taking people’s lives. You may read more here.

Make sure to submit a nomination, or two, if you know anyone worthy of being named 2018 HAR REALTOR® of the Year or John E. Wolf Community Service Award. You may find the nomination form here, along with the criteria used in making the selections. These are the highest honors bestow from HAR, and we know there are so many REALTORS® out there who do great work in business and the community. Help them receive the recognition they deserve and nominate someone before the September 10 deadline.

Until Next Month,
