Chapter 19, the City of Houston’s Floodplain ordinance, went into effect on September 1, 2018. Mayor Sylvester Turner and Houston City Council approved amendments to the ordinance after Hurricane Harvey caused countless property owners to lose their homes and businesses due to flooding.

In a collaborative effort with HAR’s Governmental Affairs Department, HAR’s Member Training and Profitability Department is offering a course “A REALTOR®’s Survival Guide to the City of Houston’s Flood Plain Ordinance,” to educate members on the ordinance which covers platting, permitting, variances, building, and much more.  The two hour TREC-approved course will be offered at HAR Central on November 2, 16 and 27. To register, visit www.har.com/edu.

HAR’s October 1 Member Focus Monday Facebook Live interview featured Jamila Johnson, the City of Houston’s Floodplain Manager, who was interviewed by Cristina Schaefer, HAR’s Training and Member Outreach Specialist.  There was so much interest in Johnson’s update on the Floodplain ordinance that the interview, which normally last 30 minutes, was extended to an hour.
