William A. McDade, a veteran land broker in Houston, was recently voted in as a REALTOR® Emeritus member of the National Association of REALTORS®. He has fulfilled the designation requirements which include both 40 years of membership and a minimum one year of association service at the national, state or local level.

McDade first received his Texas Real Estate Broker’s License in 1959. In 1982 he formed and incorporated Texas-licensed McDade & Company. He later founded the firm McDade, Smith, Gould, Johnston, Mason + Company with Sid Smith and Dick Gould in 1991. McDade and his team most recently joined the land brokerage group of Houston CBRE for a five-year stint through January 2016.

CBRE Senior Managing Director Mark Taylor referred to McDade as the “Dean of Houston Land Brokerage” and credits his own introduction to Houston real estate as a trainee under McDade. Bill takes pride in dedicating time throughout his career to mentoring brokers just getting their start in the industry. During his tenure at McDade, Smith, Gould, Johnston, Mason + Co, he was the driving force in establishing a successful mentoring program that matched junior brokers with the company’s leading senior brokers to give them a head start both within the industry and in the local community.

Bill has received many accolades throughout his career including the 1998 Houston Board of Realtors Commercial Professional of the Year Award. In 2008, Bill was named to the Houston Business Journal’s Heavy Hitters Hall of Fame; Bill and his late partner Sid Smith are two of only seven members in this prestigious club. Bill was formerly affiliated with The Horne Company, Cushman & Wakefield, McDade Smith Gould Johnston Mason + Co. and CBRE.

Since 1968, Bill has brokered or co-brokered transactions well in excess of $1 billion. His multi-million dollar transactions include dealings with many national, state and local firms including Citigroup/Travelers, Centerpoint/Reliant Energy, Cockrell Oil, Johnson Development, and Trammell Crow, just to name a few.

Bill has represented numerous banking institutions and worked with a number of local school districts including Houston, Alief and Aldine as well as Houston Community College and the University of Houston. Other clients have been Lexus and Infiniti automobile dealerships, various apartment sites for Davis Development of Georgia, Archstone Smith, Legacy Partners, Beeler Properties, Fairfield Residential Companies, United Dominion Trust, the Finger Companies, as well as selling to other users and investors such as Wal-Mart, Target, Kroger, HEB, Walgreens, CVS and Sam’s.

Over his lengthy career, Bill has brokered large tracts not only in Houston but numerous other markets throughout Texas and nationwide. Although known primarily as a land broker, Bill has brokered in excess of $200 million in office and industrial properties. Furthering his well-rounded real estate expertise, Bill is a minority partner in more than 30 real estate investments which include land, retail, office and industrial properties.
