Over the past decade, the role of advocacy at HAR has expanded dramatically. The issues impacting REALTORS®, homeowners, and the real estate industry have become increasingly complex, requiring engagement at every level of government and stronger collaboration with elected officials, community stakeholders, and industry partners.
As our region continues to grow, so does the need for a strategic and proactive approach to advocacy. To better position HAR for the future, the organization has expanded its advocacy leadership team with the creation of two key leadership roles.
I am honored to serve as HAR’s first Chief Advocacy Officer. In this role, I will oversee the association’s Governmental Affairs, Political Affairs, and other advocacy initiatives, ensuring that HAR continues to be a leading voice on issues affecting private property rights, homeownership, housing opportunity, and the real estate industry. My focus will be on strengthening HAR’s advocacy infrastructure, building strategic partnerships, and advancing policies that support both our members and the communities they serve.
As part of this transition, I am excited that Grant Trammell has been promoted to Director of Political Affairs. Grant has played an integral role in HAR’s advocacy efforts and has developed strong relationships throughout the political and public policy community. In his new role, he will oversee candidate interviews and recommendations, political engagement efforts, and strategic political initiatives that help ensure HAR remains a trusted and respected voice in the political process.
Together, these changes reflect HAR’s robust legacy and commitment to advocacy excellence. While the structure of our department continues to evolve, our mission remains the same: protecting private property rights, supporting housing opportunities, and ensuring that REALTORS® have a seat at the table when decisions affecting our industry are made.

Amber Burton Alfred serves as Chief Advocacy Officer for the Houston Association of REALTORS® (HAR), where she oversees Governmental Affairs, Political Affairs, TREPAC, and strategic advocacy initiatives. With more than 25 years of experience in governmental affairs, public policy, grassroots advocacy, and political strategy, she works with elected officials, industry leaders, and community stakeholders to advance policies that support homeownership, private property rights, and housing opportunity.
Since joining HAR in 2016, Amber has helped expand the association’s advocacy footprint and strengthen its position as one of the most influential REALTOR® advocacy programs in the country. She earned her Juris Doctor from South Texas College of Law Houston and holds a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from Texas State University. Amber serves on the Board of Directors of the Texas Lyceum as Vice President of Membership, is a graduate of Leadership Houston, and is actively involved in numerous civic and philanthropic organizations throughout the region.

Grant Trammell serves as Director of Political Affairs for the Houston Association of REALTORS® (HAR). Since joining HAR in 2019, Grant has played a key role in supporting the association’s advocacy and political programs, helping strengthen relationships with elected officials, candidates, and community leaders throughout the region.
Grant brings a strong background in public policy, political affairs, and stakeholder engagement and is committed to advancing HAR’s mission of protecting private property rights and promoting policies that support homeowners and the real estate industry. Grant is a proud graduate of Texas Tech University, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts in Public Relations. He serves on the board of League of Women Voters – Houston and is actively involved in voter engagement.
