We are now less than 100 days away from the ever so important November elections that will take place in the City of Houston, Missouri City and The Woodlands Township, among others. Low voter turnout has plagued local elections such as Missouri City and The Woodlands Township in the past and will likely be a factor again this November. The first step in being able to cast your votes and make your voice heard is voter registration. Although turnout is often high in the City of Houston elections, voter registration is still an important place to start if you are interested in casting your ballot on November 5.
In Harris County, the upcoming elections will be the first major election in which the new voting centers are implemented. These new voting centers will allow voters to cast their ballot at any location, even outside of their assigned precinct, making it easier for voters to get to the polls and cast their votes. The new system, implemented by Harris County Clerk Diane Trautman, was tested earlier this year in May’s low-turnout school board elections and was widely viewed as a success.
For the Missouri City and The Woodlands Township elections, each vote can be extremely important as low voter turnout often causes the results in these races to be separated by just a few votes. If you live in one of these areas, be sure to register to vote in order to make your voice heard in your community.
The last day to register to vote in the November elections is October 7, so be sure to check your registration status soon at the Texas Secretary of State’s website (votetexas.gov).
