Knowing the medical challenges of the children that she serves, Ann Woodroof, a native Houstonian, mother of two and long-time REALTOR®, is determined to bring joy-filled experiences to young cancer patients through the beneficial efforts of the 25-year-old Sunshine Kids Foundation. As fundraising director for Prudential Gary Greene, REALTORS®, Ann spends countless hours planning the event that has now become the No. 1 fundraiser for the Sunshine Kids nationally: the Craig Biggio Sunshine Kids Celebrity Gala and Golf Classic. Through her team’s efforts, Prudential Gary Greene, REALTORS® has raised more than $3 million for children with cancer.

Ann also maintains a personal commitment to the kids. For example, one young cancer survivor started his own organization, Triumph Over Kid Cancer, for children suffering from a rare, mostly untreatable form of cancer. Ann now works with him to achieve his lofty goal of awareness and the need for research. She travels with the kids throughout the year, attends their parties, follows their treatments, their remissions and their struggles. She celebrates their victories and mourns with their families the losses of the young lives she has come to know and love.

While the Sunshine Kids is her primary philanthropic focus, Ann also serves as a member of Donne Di Domani, a local organization of Italian-American women who foster an awareness of Italian culture and heritage, raising money for local charities through the sale of marinara sauces at the Nutcracker Market each year.

Ann is a top-producing agent with Prudential Gary Greene, REALTORS® and has served the REALTOR® community as MLS chairwoman (twice) and directors of both the Texas Association of REALTORS® and National Association of REALTORS®. She, her husband, Mark, and their sons, Matt and Brett, all work in the real estate industry and proudly carry on the family tradition of service to others.

Each year, the John E. Wolf Citizenship Cup Award is presented to an HAR member that makes an outstanding contribution to the community, primarily outside the scope of the real estate industry.  Criteria for the award include leadership and service in charitable organizations, service organizations and special service organizations.

For the many ways that she inspires us by helping those throughout our local community, we proudly salute Ann Woodroof as recipient of HAR’s 2010 John E. Wolf Citizenship Cup Award.
