As we begin a new year filled with activities, events, and opportunities designed for HAR International REALTOR® members, our focus as an advisory group is to enhance and add value to their worldwide transactions and provide the benefits of thinking globally and working locally. As we look ahead, we hope to stay actively involved with the City of Houston, The World Affairs Council, The Greater Houston Partnership, affiliate organizations such as AAREA and to continue our community outreach work at the Ronald McDonald House.

In the upcoming year the HAR International Advisory Group will be partnering with the TAR International Committee and the NAR Research Department to administer a statewide survey to all 90,000 plus TAR residential REALTOR® members in regards to their global real estate activities. Be on the lookout for it and please take a few moments to reply. We need your input in order to plan appropriate programs and activities.

The HAR International Advisory Group will also continue to provide educational classes. One of the most important courses offered is the “Risk Reduction in International Transactions” class. The focus of this class is how to avoid the pitfalls and dangers common to inbound and outbound real estate transactions.

The HAR International Advisory Group is also investigating being involved with World Summit producers who are interested in hosting a mini-world summit in Houston, possibly in February. The mini-summit will help Houston agents understand what will be included at the World Summit next fall in Florida. Once we learn more details, it will be posted here on HAR Connect.

There also are plans for a new and improved HAR International website concentrating on folks relocating to Houston as well as featuring global listings from HAR MLS Area 82. Since approximately 90 percent of Houston’s international business is inbound, our revamped website will emphasize that aspect of global real estate.

Next fall, the HAR International Advisory Group, along with the TAR international committee, will host AMPI REALTOR® members from Mexico and arrange a tour of Houston and the surrounding area before the delegation heads to the annual state convention in San Antonio.

In conclusion, the focus of the HAR International Advisory Group is to enhance and add value to international real estate transactions while creating opportunities, awareness and the benefits of thinking globally and working locally to our members. By providing opportunities to become actively involved with worldwide organizations and to access the education needed to become experts in the field, participation by other fellow REALTORS® will grow. We strongly encourage anyone that wants to expand their international real estate knowledge to  consider the upcoming programs and classes that will be available.
