On September 10, the non-profit volunteer home repair program Rebuilding Together-Houston presented Next Gen REALTOR® Group (NRG) crew leader Jemila Williams with its second Golden Hammer Award during the Partners in Progress 30th Anniversary Luncheon. This prestigious award is given to exceptional crew leaders that go above and beyond standards. The first award was presented in 2010 to NRG Community Service Chair Terri Lyons.

Last spring brought another opportunity to help a deserving family, and as before, NRG members got together to make the magic happen. The group completed free exterior home repairs for Mrs. Givens, an elderly, disabled, low-income Houstonian. This project not only rebuilt the spirit of Mrs. Givens and improved the look and feel of her home, but also created a positive impact on the neighborhood’s environment. Mrs. Givens melted our hearts with her words: “You guys are a blessing. This was my dream!! God is good and I love what you guys have done. I am so happy!”

While it is apparent that no reward would have been greater than the words of gratitude from Mrs. Givens, this recognition is a true testament to the synergy the entire team had this year.

“It would have been impossible to bring this award home if it wasn’t for our committed NRG team who worked tirelessly, going beyond the call of duty, with smiles and a willingness to do whatever it took to make sure this homeowner was happy,” said Jemila Williams.

For the past three years, NRG has partnered with Rebuilding Together Houston in an outreach effort to preserve affordable homeownership and revitalize neighborhoods.
