Just Like the Weather, Things are Heating Up at HAR

It seems like there is always something new going on at HAR-or lots of things actually. This month is certainly no different.

I am so thrilled to be able to announce the HAR Flame program is fully up and running as of May. It took some work to have all the moving pieces in place, but it has finally happened. This will enable us to collect the various ways that REALTORS® give back. I want to encourage you to go to www.har.com/flame and “share your story” and, most importantly, how many hours you volunteer.

Starting this month, HAR is going to use Microsoft Tags to allow us to marry our online content with the articles in this print publication. You simply download a Tag Reader to your smart phone and scan the Tag to access additional, related information. Isn’t technology amazing? And aren’t you glad to be a member of an association that is always at the forefront? I know I am.

What can I say about the Houston real estate market? We continue to be so fortunate to live here, with sales and prices showing strength and resilience. While we will have to wait and see what the impact is of the end of the tax credits, there seems to be a return to a sense of confidence that says to me that the market will be headed back up.

We returned recently from the NAR Mid-Year meeting, which was packed full of information and new standards and policies.

If you are a broker, I also strongly encourage you to become a participant in NAR’s Broker Involvement Program. Past experience has shown that individual agents are more likely to respond to a Call to Action coming from their broker than from HAR, TAR or NAR. These are issues that are vital to our industry and profession.

This is also your last chance to run for the HAR board of directors and help lead this great association. I can’t tell you how rewarding it is to give back to the industry that continues to be so important in our businesses and our lives.

Until next month, have a successful June.
