As we turn the page to a new year (hello, 2026!), it’s only natural to wonder what the months ahead may bring, especially when it comes to the economy and housing. Every January, we kick things off by looking ahead, and one of the best ways to do that is through our Young Professionals Network (YPN) Economic Outlook with HAR Chief Economist Dr. Ted C. Jones. This year’s virtual forecast takes place on January 8 at 9 a.m. It’s always a valuable way to start the year informed and prepared. You can read more about the event and how to register on page 2.

Another way to stay informed is by following the housing market reports from the HAR Communications Team. Watch for them in your inbox or visit HAR.com/newsroom. The latest statistical report shows Houston homebuyers are feeling thankful for a little more flexibility as the market continues its shift toward balance. This change is creating new opportunities for both buyers and sellers. You may read the full housing market update on pages 8–11.

A new year also means new laws, and 2026 is no exception. Several real estate–related laws are now in effect that will impact how agents work with buyers, host open houses, and manage certain property management responsibilities. We’ve outlined what you need to know on pages 22-23.

I want to reflect on what a truly special night last month’s REALTOR® Celebration was. We installed your Board of Directors and executive officers, and I was deeply grateful to be sworn in by longtime HAR Director of Member Services Cynthia Williams, who inspired me to get involved early in my career. Her encouragement has made a lasting impact on me. Those who attended also heard the powerful and inspiring stories of our REALTOR® of the Year, Bill Baldwin, and our John E. Wolf Community Service Award recipient, Russell Simmons. You can relive those moments and see more photos from the event on pages 26–37.

As this is my first column as chair, I want to share how honored and humbled I am to serve as the 2026 Chair of the Houston Association of REALTORS®. I am grateful to the past chairs I had the privilege of serving under—each of you inspired me in different ways. I’m excited for the year ahead and look forward to all that we will accomplish together in 2026.

Until next month,
