Just in time for Valentine’s Day, the Houston Association of Realtors (HAR) reveals the communities that captured the hearts of Houston homebuyers in 2024. This inaugural report identifies the top 10 geographic market areas that experienced the largest percentage increase in home purchases over the past year.
Brookshire, located about 40 miles west of downtown Houston, topped the list with a 144.7 percent year-over-year growth in home sales. Four out of five homes sold in Brookshire in 2024 were new construction. The average home price in this Waller County community was $335,042.
Porter/New Caney West and Conroe Northeast rounded out the top three most loved communities last year with increases of 92.8 percent and 55.2 percent, respectively.
Houston homebuyers were drawn to communities offering new, affordable homes in 2024. New construction made up the majority of home sales in seven of the top 10 geographic market areas on the list. Affordability proved to be a key factor, with seven of these sought-after communities having average home prices below the Houston area’s average of $406,492, as reported in HAR’s January 2025 Housing Market Update.
From established areas like Montrose to rapidly growing communities like Brookshire, consumers are finding communities that truly resonate with their needs and budgets,” said HAR Chair Shae Cottar with LPT Realty. “This report highlights the ongoing demand for affordable housing options, and it provides valuable insights for both buyers and sellers looking to make a move in 2025.”
