Major national media organizations devoted coverage to the Houston real estate market in light of falling oil prices. Wall Street Journal real estate reporter Kris Hudson quoted HAR Chair Nancy Furst in his February 12 “Houston Housing Market Losing Energy” article as she explained: “January was a strong month overall for the Houston housing market, but we still expect to see sales cool as a result of lower oil prices and the limited supply of homes.”

CNBC real estate editor/anchor Diana Olick also quoted HAR Chair Nancy Furst in her February 13 story entitled “Houston housing awaits spring chill.” Diana wrote: “Houston has been one of the top-performing real estate markets in the nation for several years. Driven by a strong, energy-focused economy, the city, plain and simple, saw job growth push demand. But as oil prices hover at about half their year-ago values, Houston housing is suddenly teetering from its success.”

HAR Chair Nancy Furst was a guest on the KPRC-TV/Local 2 Sunday morning public affairs program “Houston Newsmakers” with host Khambrel Marshall on February 15, discussing the effects of declining oil prices and energy industry layoffs on local housing.

HAR’s January MLS data was cited in the February 18 edition of “Houston Matters” on Houston Public Media/KUHF 88.7 FM, as a panel consisting of the Greater Houston Partnership’s research director, a University of Houston economics professor and the radio station’s business correspondent, Andrew Schneider, discussed their 2015 expectations for real estate and other segments of the Houston economy.

KTRK-TV/ABC 13 Eyewitness News reporter Katherine Whaley interviewed HAR Chair Nancy Furst for a February 20 feature story about HAR.com’s exciting new Drive Time tool that enables consumers to search for homes based on commute times.

Spanish-language TV station Univision/Channel 45 also ran a story about HAR.com’s new Drive Time tool that aired on the evening of March 6. HAR board member Ronnie Miranda explained how the tool worked while giving an on-camera demonstration at the HAR Central office.
