Last November, we witnessed a change in the regime of political power across the nation. This “out with the old, in with the new” phenomena trickled down to the local level, and three of Harris County’s elected officials lost their races to challengers. These races included the election of a new Harris County Judge, Harris County Clerk and Harris County Commissioner for Precinct Two. Since the last election, HAR’s Governmental Affairs and Advocacy team has been working diligently to build relationships with newly elected officials, while maintaining relationships with incumbent elected officials.

Recently, we held a reception to honor these newly elected officials and let them know that HAR is here to work with their administration and staff. HAR’s Leadership including the Board of Directors, Governmental Affairs and Political Affairs Advisory Groups and TREPAC Trustees were able to mix and mingle with Harris County Judge Lina Hidalgo, Harris County Clerk Diane Trautman and Harris County Commissioner Adrian Garcia (Precinct 2). A long time REALTOR® saying is, “if real estate is your profession, then politics is your business”. HAR has a wonderful legacy of being non-partisan and working “across the aisle” to protect the real estate industry and private property rights, in addition to many other issues that impact REALTORS® and citizens.
