A Message from Margie

HAR is known for many things, but technology is at or near the top of the list. This month, we are previewing a couple of new technology features that will be coming soon. First, the iPhone app for both MLS subscribers and consumers should be available shortly. The Real Estate Community is also coming soon to HAR.com and will allow consumers and REALTORS® to ask questions, post answers and share facts, opinions and personal experiences with each other.

I am so proud of our NextGen REALTOR® Group (NRG) and all of our younger members who are in the business. NRG has launched the “20 Under 40” Rising Stars in Real Estate recognition program so if you are under the age of 40 or know a deserving REALTOR® who is, please read more about this award and make a nomination.

It has been an extremely busy political time, especially for REALTORS®. While many big pieces of legislation have been passed in the last few months, HAR and NAR have been representing the REALTOR® and homeowner perspective when speaking to members of Congress. Most recently, President Obama signed into law the Dodd-Frank Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act. While there are MANY pages to the bill, there are also many provisions that impact our members, including a sunset provision for the Home Valuation Code of Conduct (HVCC). A five-year extension of the National Flood Insurance Program also passed the U.S. House of Representatives and now makes its way to a more uncertain U.S. Senate.

I also encourage you to attend the 2010 Texas REALTORS® Convention and Trade Expo in Galveston from September 13-15. This is your opportunity to meet and talk to REALTORS® from across the state of Texas. There will be lots of education and fun on the Island. I hope to see you there.

Lastly, I want to let you know about a new feature on the HAR Flame site (www.har.com/flame). We receive so many requests to help promote community events in which our members are involved, but we haven’t had a way to do it. Now, we have added a “Add Your Community Event” link on the Flame site. You are now able to go and enter a few pieces of information to let everyone who visits the site know about your event.

Until next month, I hope you have a productive August.
