The 2018 edition of the annual HAR Engage conference received high marks from those in attendance this year. The venue was at full capacity with 19 separate sessions offered throughout the busy day.

Kenya Burrell-VanWormer, the 2018 HAR Chair, opened the day in the Red Oak Ballroom and welcomed a full house to the 9th consecutive member conference at the Norris Conference Center in CityCentre.  Chris Smith of Curaytor fame was the opening speaker and he did not disappoint. He was busy with members after his session in the Engage lounge for most of the day.

2018 HAR Engage Chair, Kendra Wheaton, along with the 2018 Engage Advisory Group, met several times throughout the year, thoughtfully planning the conference, from subject content matter to using the scan in check in and check out registration system to promoting the conference to the vegan friendly lunch menu. Hats off to them for a job well done!

This year, we strived to offer plenty of session choices for the attendees. There were 8 twenty-minute tech sessions offered, 4 in the morning and those same 4 repeated in the afternoon.  Katie Kossev, HAR board member and frequent Inman Conference speaker, spoke to the attendees on how to remain relevant and not end up a Toys R Us, obsolete and out of business.  Brad Inman talked about the industry today and who he sees as the brokerage models to pay attention to in the industry. HAR’s legal counsel, Grant Harpold, spoke on avoiding peril and mistakes in your practice.  Crowd favorite Terry Watson provided insight into the industry punctuated with humor during the lunch session. A post Harvey Houston panel moderated by Burrell-VanWormer was informative and well received.
