A Word from Our Chair

When March housing figures came out, we weren’t sure if it was the beginning of a downward trend or just a blip on the radar. April sales came roaring back, so we will have to continue to watch the market going forward to see what happens. Investors buying up properties after Hurricane Harvey obviously had some impact, but we will have to analyze the numbers to find out how much that impact was. Is this your time to throw your hat in the ring to run for the 2019 HAR Board of Directors? The industry outside of Houston faces many challenges that you’ve probably read about recently. Be part of the solution and run for the HAR Board of Directors to help make sure HAR’s voice is heard locally and across the country. By the time you receive this magazine, the NAR Midyear Legislative meetings will have concluded. This is the opportunity to meet with our elected officials in Washington, D.C. to ensure they know the REALTOR® and homeowner points of view. Part of our efforts include the Broker Involvement Program (BIP), which you may read about here. We try to inform our members as efficiently as we can when there is an issue about which we need them to take action. You’ll always listen to your broker more though, so the makes it easy for the broker and their agents to respond.

We are all learning new things every day that benefit our clients as we help them through the home buying or selling process. One of the fastest ways to learn more is to take a course offered by HAR’s Professional Development Department. It, along with the HAR Technology Department, will be launching a new website soon, which will have many advancements, which you may read about here. Stay out of the summer heat, and register for a course in an air conditioned classroom at any of the four HAR locations today.

Hopefully you read this magazine early in the month, so you don’t miss the Commercial Gateway/Bisnow panel discussion titled “Winning the War on Stormwater.” Speakers from engineering firms, developers, the City of Houston, and Harris County.
