The purpose of this event is to re-introduce the City of Houston’s Down Payment Assistance Programs to Houston area REALTORS®. REALTORS® that utilized our programs in the past, or that generate sales within the municipal area of Houston to low-to-moderate income households, will discover the ease of closing a transaction receiving Down Payment Assistance Funds. REALTORS® will learn how to use the City of Houston’s Down Payment Assistance Programs to expand their market area and increase sales. In addition, REALTORS® will have a chance to personally meet Approved Lenders, Builders, Homebuyer Counseling Agencies, the City of Houston’s Down Payment Assistance Team and Housing and Community Development staff vital to the Down Payment Assistance Programs.

  • Wait a minute – we’re worrying about laying off firefighters, but the City has money to pay realtors for down payment assistance?  What’s wrong with this picture?

    • Mary Jo,

The downpayment assistance is for the homebuyer…not the REALTOR.  This class is to educate REALTORS about the possible sources of downpayment assistance that would help their clients purchase a home.  The City does not pay the REALTOR anything.  Also, I believe the funds for these programs are just administered by the City but actually come from HUD (federal funds).I believe there was a City-funded program that was discontinued one or two years ago due to budget concerns.  Hope that help clarify the issue for you.
