April Contracts Bring May Closings

Any of you who know me well know that I am a big social networker. (www.facebook.com/danfrank or @danfranktx on Twitter)  It is an area that can be used very effectively or can be a huge waste of time, if you don’t know what you are doing. As you can see from the cover of this month’s magazine, we are focusing on how to make social media work for you. You may read more about it here and learn...

March to Austin in April and Washington, D.C. in May

Every year, the HAR Board of Directors approves Bylaws changes that must also be voted on by the membership. This year the special meeting to review and vote on these proposed amendments to the HAR Bylaws will be held on Monday, March 25 at 1 p.m. in the HAR Boardroom. If you are unable to attend, you may fill out your proxy form on page 11, which grants the right to vote on your behalf to the chairman...

More Leaders –and Listings– Needed

No business deal is worth your personal safety.  As you probably saw from the cover of this month’s magazine, the “Foot Fetish Creep” is back. HAR staff has been inundated with calls from members reporting that he has called and harassed them repeatedly. We want to make sure all of our members stay safe, so please read more about how to identify when he calls and what to do if you are on the...

A Year Full of Challenges and Opportunities Ahead

First, I want to start by saying what an honor it is to serve each and every member of HAR as your chairman this year. While I might sit in the chair at the front table, this is YOUR association so please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any suggestions, questions or even compliments about HAR. If I don’t know the answer, I will make sure you are contacted by someone who does. My email...

Ending the Year with Much Accomplished

It seems like only yesterday that I was sworn in as chairman of the board for HAR. It has been a tremendous year, and I think we can all look back with pride at all of the tools and services that HAR rolled out this past year. As if our technology department needed more impressive tools than they have already put out, the Real Estate Community is now live on HAR.com. Community members may ask each...

Elections, Awards, The BIG e and More

It seems like there has been an election nearly every month this year, even though there really hasn’t been. There is one more though—at least one more. The November general election will be held on Tuesday, November 6, and early voting will be available running up to that date. Our advisory group spends countless hours screening the candidates who would best represent the REALTOR® Party, which...

Summer Ends and the Association is Just Getting Started

How is it possible that the summer has already come to a close? Kids are back in school (remember to obey those school zone speed limits while refraining  from cell phone usage), and we are past the bulk of the peak selling season for real estate. That being said, it is impossible to not be extremely happy about the July MLS sales statistics. Single-family home sales were up 27.0 percent, and the...

The Summer Rolls on for Houston Real Estate and HAR

As you can see from the cover of this month’s magazine, the Professional Development Department and its many course offerings is the focus of the issue. Our education is second to none. We are continually offering the latest information to our members to help keep you up-to-date and as effective in your business as possible—and many of the courses are free. If you want to set yourself apart from...

Elections, New Member Tools and the Strongest Housing Market in Years

As you can see from the cover of the magazine, the greater Houston real estate market is going strong. At the same time, we don’t want to get too far ahead of ourselves. We all know things can change quickly. We do remain cautiously optimistic that the trends will continue and that business will be sustainably robust. You may read the latest monthly MLS release here though for more information. One...

Congress, Commercial Real Estate and Countries Abroad

As you can tell from the cover of the magazine, Commercial Gateway’s quarterly market research report is welcome news to our commercial members who have definitely had a better start to 2012 than some previous years. You may read all about the commercial real estate market in the greater Houston area here.  You may also read some of the insightful comments about the market from some of the leaders...
