HAR in the News

The Houston Association of REALTORS® is making headlines! Here’s a look at some of the media coverage our organization has received over the past few weeks.

HAR’s January 2013 MLS news release, reporting a 20th consecutive month of positive sales that plunged housing inventory to a 1999 low of 3.6 months, generated coverage from mid- to late February in the following media outlets:

  • CultureMap Houston
  • Examiner Newspapers
  • Houston Business Journal (online and print editions)
  • Houston Chronicle (online and print editions as well as Prime Property real estate blog)
  • Houston Community Newspapers
  • KHOU-TV (11 News)
  • KPRC-TV (Local 2)
  • KRIV-TV (Fox 26 News)
  • KROI-FM (News 92 FM)
  • KTRH (NewsRadio 740)
  • TRK-TV (13 Eyewitness News)
  • KUHF (Houston Public Radio)

RISMedia and RE Technology both reported in mid-February about the HAR.com Consumer Research Panel and its successful recruitment in just two years of more than 6,500 participants, consisting of home buyers, sellers, owners and renters. The panel has conducted several surveys ranging from legislative priorities, lifestyle search, transaction management, customized real estate search, market statistics, real estate agent satisfaction and rental trends.

KTRK-TV/13 Eyewitness News consumer reporter Jeff Ehling interviewed HAR Chair-elect Chaille Ralph and board member Tim Surratt for a February 26 story about bidding wars over homes that have resulted in sales prices exceeding the original list price.

CNBC real estate reporter Diana Olick quoted HAR Chairman Danny Frank in her March 1 television report and online article about the rapidly depleting supply of homes nationally. Houston was among several major housing markets that she profiled.

CNBC has also added Houston to its “U.S. Housing Recovery Map” and is using HAR’s MLS data (with attribution) to keep its national audience informed about our local housing market.

The March 1 issue of the International Business Times cited HAR’s January MLS data for a story headlined “US Energy Boom Puts Houston On Top For Corporate Expansion Projects; Area Housing Inventory At 13-Year Low.”

These stories and more are chronicled in the HAR Online Newsroom at www.har.com/newsroom.
